SUMMER 2024 – TREE REMOVAL – ÎLES DES ÉCLUSES SECTOR
The Old Port will be removing two old ash trees infected by emerald ash borers as well as two small birch trees in the Old Port’s Île des Écluses sector, specifically where Bota Bota spa is located.
In an effort to preserve the area’s tree cover, four trees will be planted to replace the two ash trees and two trees will be planted to replace the birch trees. Two additional trees will also be planted.
Though the two ash trees had been treated in recent years, their health has still greatly deteriorated. The birch trees have simply reached their end of life. For information, the new tree species to be planted are two Serbian spruce trees (Picea omorika), two maidenhair trees (‘Princeton Sentry’ Ginkgo biloba), one Katsura tree (Cercidiphyllum japonicum), and one ‘Armstrong’ red maple tree (Acer rubrum).
Thank you for your understanding.
