IMPORTANT: To establish the sound environment for outdoor programming (one-time events and concessions) on the Quays, all event producers and merchants on all Corporation property must comply to the Noise Management Policy for the Quays of the Old Port (PDF, 130Ko)


The Old Port of Montreal Corporation encourages the contribution of suppliers and cultural product producers in offering high-quality recreational and tourist products and services.

The Corporation favours cultural, educational and innovative activities that respect the maritime, historical, archaeological, scientific and technological character of the Old Port. The exceptional geographic location of the Quays of the Old Port makes it one of the most popular destinations in Montreal and Quebec; the innovative offerings of the Montreal Science Centre is considered among the major cultural institutions in the city.

In this context, commercial activities and programming contribute to the:

  • Enhancement of the site and buildings
  • Preservation and enhancement of its exceptional heritage
  • Development, implementation and exploitation of a large variety of products, including high-quality maritime and recreational activities 
  • High-quality programming that is characterized as among the very best things to do in Montreal, in Quebec and in Canada.

COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

The site of the Quays of the Old Port is always researching new projects whose nature and impacts, while essentially commercial, enhance the visitor experience according to the mission and values of the Corporation.

These activities may follow either a simple proposition on the part of a business, or be part of a call for offer to the Corporation.

The Corporation may negotiate that all agreements are valid for an initial maximum of 5 years.

The majority of activities and business operations undertaken by the merchant is either on a permanent or seasonal basis (boutiques, restaurants, cruises and rentals).

Certain activities or products are run directly by the Corporation (Parking, Port d’escale Marina, and the boardwalk/promenade).

 

Commercial projects must fit into one of the following categories:

Leisure and outdoor activities

  • Projects that take place in the basins, parks, and other converted spaces on the site
  • Hiking or walking activities, outdoor games and sports
  • Projects must take into account the available infrastructure and security standards currently in place

Cruises, excursions and maritime attractions

  • Innovative projects such as cruises and rides on the river 
  • Proposals must take into account the security standards currently in place and understand the geographic and nautical constraints of the St. Lawrence River 

Restaurants and boutiques

  • This sector of activity is generally subject to public calls for offer

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS

The Quays of the Old Port is always on the lookout for activities and events that generate unique experiences.

These activities can take the form of : 

  • Cultural and educational activities
  • Leisure and relaxation activities
  • Entertainment or recreation that capitalizes on a theme within the Quays
  • They are normally agreed and signed upon with a legal contract, and are of an average term length (an average of 5 years).
  • They offer diversified and revitalized experiences, year after year
  • They are generally carried out by producers who are experts in these fields
  • They have an important impact in terms of attracting clients, and have an indirect effect on other merchants and their services.

The submitted projects must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Animation 
  • Shows (music, theatre or other) 
  • Cultural events 
  • Exhibitions/displays
  • Events (festival, trade show or other)

Montreal Science Centre

Commercial projects

The only science and technology centre in Quebec, the Montreal Science Centre can provide corporate events that are of the same high quality as events that can be accommodated at restaurants and boutiques.

Summer boutiques

  • Located in the ‘container’ section of the Promenade of Summer Boutiques, along the King Edward Quay, facing the Port d’escale
  • Benefits from the clientele of the Montreal Science Centre
  • Open daily, from May to September
  • Must have an original theme and a unique technological character.  
  • Must have a varied choice of articles and products that appeal to different scientific innovations.
